The Atlanta Jamaican Association is now inviting applications for its 2009 scholarships from high school students bound for college. Undergraduates resident in the Atlanta Metro area and those on student visas are eligible for consideration. Applicants must be of Jamaican parentage and must meet other qualifying criteria. Introduced in 1995, the program has been strengthened in recent years by an ongoing partnership with the Tropical Sports Club. In all, thirty-nine students have already benefitted from the program. The closing date for applications this year is May 15.

AJA Elects New Executive For 2009
The
Atlanta Jamaican Association has elected new Officers for the 2009 Executive Board. The election took place at the Annual General Meeting of the Association held at the Hillside Presbyterian Church Hall on October 11, 2008. Mr. Derrick Harvey, who was previously President for a period of four years, was again elected to that office. The other officers elected with Mr. Harvey are:

Vice President Mr. Errol Ritchie

Assistant Treasurer Mr. George Aird

Assistant Secretary Ms. Marcia Graham

Parliamentarian Mr. Winston Henry
These five officers along and two Trustees, to be appointed by the new President, in accordance with the By Laws, will constitute the 2009 Executive Board of the Association, They will assume office in January 1, 2009.

With the financial crunch challenging most or all of us - it is not surprising that many companies are laying-off employees in record numbers.
