AJA Celebrates 30 years
 
Atlanta, Ga. – 2007 – Atlanta Jamaica Association (AJA) celebrates 30 years of existence in Atlanta. To mark this milestone the AJA will be hosting a series of activities throughout the year.

The Special Anniversary Calendar of events is:

 

March 

Cultural Presentation on the Bicentenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade in 1807

 

April

Spring Dance – Proceeds in aid of AJA Scholarship Fund

 

June 9

Hosting of Town Hall Meeting with Congressman Hank Johnson as speaker.

Venue: Hillside Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 1879 Columbus Drive,         Decatur, Ga.

Time: 7:00pm.  Please bring a friend.

 

July

Courtesy calls on Government officials,

Launching of a new and very dynamic website,

 

August

Jamaican Independence & Emancipation Ball and Scholarship Awards

 

September

Family Day Picnic

 

October      

 AJA 30th Anniversary Church Service and Community Awards Reception. This Awards reception will recognize outstanding members of the Jamaican community who have contributed to Atlanta, Georgia and Jamaica as well as pay homage to the founding members of the AJA. .

 


About AJA
 
The Atlanta Jamaican Association (AJA), founded in 1977 is a non-profit organization with 501© (4) status under the Internal Revenue Service Code.
The broad objectives of the Association as set out by the founders are to provide specified services to the Jamaican community in Metro Atlanta, to promote unity friendship and understanding between Jamaicans and the greater Atlanta community, to acquire a building to call home and to keep abreast of social and economic developments in Jamaica and assist where possible. Recently the AJA incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary entity with 501(c) (3) status under the Internal Revenue Service Code. This entity, called the AJ Cultural and Educational Fund Inc. was established for charitable and educational purposes. It is intended to enable the Association to pursue some of its objectives more effectively. Any contributions it receives are tax deductible.
The association started with 32 founding members and today has over 400 on register.
