Press Release June 4, 2010 -The Atlanta Jamaican Association Inc. (AJA) celebrates Jamaica’s Independence

Atlanta, Ga. - 2010 - In celebration of Jamaica’s 48th anniversary of independence, The Atlanta Jamaican Association Inc. (AJA) in collaboration with the AJ Cultural and Education Fund, will host its annual gala event - The Jamaica Independence Ball and Scholarship Awards.

This Black Tie event will be held at the luxurious Renaissance Waverly Hotel, Cobb Galleria, 2450 Galleria Parkway Atlanta, GA 30339 on August 7, 2010 starting at 7 pm. The hotel is located minutes from Downtown Atlanta off interstates 75, and 285.

Special guest speaker will be The Most Hon. Edward Seaga, O.N., P.C, former Prime Minister of Jamaica, Author, Lecturer, and cultural icon.

Frankie Paul “Stevie Wonder” of the Caribbean and Band will provide dancing music. The Renaissance Waverly Hotel is offering a special rate of $99.00 per night for the weekend of the ball, to facilitate those traveling from outside Atlanta. For reservations, please call 770-953-4500. Tickets are $85.00 each or $80.00 each for groups of 10 or more purchased before July 17, 2010. Proceeds from this fundraising event will benefit the AJA’s Educational Fund.

The Atlanta Jamaican Association founded in 1977, is a non-profit organization with 501© (4) status under the Internal Revenue Service Code. The AJA provides support and aid to members of the Jamaican community in Metro Atlanta and Jamaica. Through its Family Relations Committee, the AJA assists families in times of severe financial and emotional hardship. It undertakes special missions to Jamaica annually, to feed the poor and provide help to the most needy. The AJA also strives to promote unity, friendship, and understanding between Jamaicans and other members of the greater Atlanta community. The AJA’s Educational Fund provides scholarships to deserving students of Jamaican parentage.
