AJA, is a non-profit Organization that was founded in 1977 to promote
friendship, unity, and understanding between the peoples of Jamaica and the
United States. As part of this effort, a scholarship program was
established to assist college-bound high school and undergraduate students
of Jamaican ancestry in their educational pursuits.
To qualify for financial assistance, each candidate is required to submit an
application as well as an essay on a selected topic of relevance to Jamaica.
This year's topic is: "Out of many one people" is the Jamaican Motto. Discuss
the various influences on the rich cultural heritage of Jamaica that contribute
to this motto.
Essays will be scored by an
independent panel of judges, which includes college professors and high
school educators in the Metropolitan Atlanta area. Subsequently,
authors of those essays receiving the most meritorious scores will be
invited to a face-to-face interview with members of the AJA Education
Committee. The award recipients will be notified by July 15, 2008
The Application form, Agreement (both attached), Transcript, and Essay
